A tip calculator that works out the tip, the new total and the amount per person, with quick presets and an optional round-up. It is handy in restaurants, cafes and bars, whether you pay alone or split with friends.

Enter the bill and a tip percentage, or tap a preset, and it shows the tip amount and the total to pay. Turn on splitting and it divides both the total and the tip evenly across the number of people.

Tipping customs vary a lot by country, so the right percentage depends on where you are. The calculator simply applies the percentage you choose, leaving the local norm up to you.

In Germany, 5 to 10 percent is customary, usually by rounding the bill up to a convenient amount. A larger tip is welcome for great service but not expected.

In the United States, tipping is much higher and effectively expected, typically 15 to 20 percent in restaurants, because it forms a large part of staff pay. Many other countries sit somewhere between these, or include service in the bill.

The round-up option rounds the total to the next whole unit, a common habit, and recalculates from there. Everything runs in your browser.
