A step size lets you count by any amount, not just one, which is handy when each tap represents a batch, and the counter can go below zero when you need to subtract past it.

Your current count and step are saved in your browser, so they survive a refresh or closing the tab on the same device, and the counter keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Everything stays on your device; nothing is uploaded.
