How the IVA calculation works

Enter an imponibile to compute the IVA amount and the gross total, or enter a gross total to extract the imponibile through scorporo. The calculator applies the Italian IVA rate you select for 2026.

The four IVA rates

Italy uses four IVA rates: 22 %, 10 %, 5 %, and 4 %. Choose the rate that matches your goods or service, and the breakdown updates accordingly.

Scorporo explained

Scorporo means working backwards from a price that already includes IVA. Starting from the gross total, the tool separates the imponibile from the IVA baked into the price.

Scope and limits

These are the Italian rates, so the tool is built for Italy rather than other IVA or VAT systems. Confirm which rate applies to your case before relying on the numbers.

An estimate, not tax advice

Use the result as a quick estimate, not tax advice, and official figures may differ. All calculations run in your browser, and no data is sent to any server.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Italian IVA rates?

Italy has four IVA rates in 2026. The standard rate (ordinaria) is 22 % and applies to most goods and services. The reduced rate (ridotta) is 10 % and covers hospitality, some food items, passenger transport, and residential renovation. The minimum rate (minima) is 5 % for certain social goods and services. The super-reduced rate is 4 % for basic foods (bread, milk), books, and first-home purchases.

What is the imponibile?

The imponibile is the price before IVA. IVA is calculated as a percentage of the imponibile. The total is imponibile plus IVA. Business invoices in Italy must show all three figures.

What is scorporo?

Scorporo means extracting the IVA from a gross total (IVA inclusa). The formula is: imponibile = totale / (1 + rate/100). At 22 %: imponibile = totale / 1.22. This calculator performs the scorporo automatically when you select total to imponibile.

Is this only for Italy?

Yes. The rates shown (22 %, 10 %, 5 %, 4 %) are the official Italian IVA rates for 2026 as set by DPR 633/72 and subsequent legislation.
