Work out your German statutory vacation entitlement, pro-rated for part-time working days and a partial year, under the Federal Leave Act (BUrlG).
How to use the Vacation Calculator
Enter the annual leave a full-time employee gets and the full-time days per week.
Enter your own working days per week and the full months you work this year.
See your leave entitlement, rounded as the law requires.
This calculator works out your vacation entitlement under the German Federal Leave Act (BUrlG). It scales the full-time entitlement to your working days per week and pro-rates it for a partial year of employment.
Because leave depends on working days rather than hours, part-time staff who work the same number of days get full entitlement. Fewer hours on each day do not by themselves reduce the number of leave days.
For a partial year of employment the entitlement is pro-rated to the months you actually work. The result is rounded as the law requires.
It is an estimate, not legal advice. Your contract or a collective agreement may grant more than the statutory minimum, so check your own terms for the binding figure.
Frequently asked questions
Leave scales with working days per week, not hours: full-time days divided by the full-time week, times your working days. For example 20 / 5 × 2 gives 8 days for a two-day week.
No. If you work five days a week but shorter hours, you get the same number of leave days as a full-time colleague. Only the number of working days matters.
Entitlement is pro-rated by full months of employment, at one twelfth per month. The tool applies this and rounds fractions of half a day or more up.
The Federal Leave Act guarantees 24 working days on a six-day week, which equals 20 days on a five-day week. Contracts and collective agreements often grant more.
